DESCRIPTION:The Michigan Department of State Police Firearms Records Unit is pleased to offer License to Purchase\nand Firearm Disqualifications training. This training is specifically designed for law enforcement agency\nstaff responsible for making the determination whether or not to issue a License to Purchase a Pistol a\nPistol (LTP).\nClassroom instruction will focus on the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act and the Michigan\nFirearms Act of 1927\, as amended\, and the impacts each have on an individual’s ability to obtain a LTP.\nA thorough review of all disqualification statutes is included and factors to consider in denying a LTP are\ndiscussed in depth. DESCRIPTION:Being able to write a good police report is one thing but reviewing reports of others is an entirely different skill. As a supervisor\, you are responsible for the quality of the reports for those that work in your unit. So\, as a supervisor\, do you really know how to review a police report? \nWhether you are a new supervisor\, or have years of experience\, this class will help you to know what is important in a police report in order to create a more thorough investigation and successful prosecution! \nThis is not a grammar class or a report writing class. This is a class that will help you review a police report for accuracy and completeness. \nHave you ever heard of Brady v. Maryland\, or Giglio v. United States? If your answer to that question is NO\, then you need to attend this training. These cases and others are important for you to know to keep you and your agency from costly litigation.
