SUMMARY:Overview of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design
DESCRIPTION:This program is part of the Crime Prevention Specialist Series.  Each program in the series is a standalone seminar.  Participants that complete all seminars in the series will be granted a Crime Prevention Specialist Certificate. \nThis one-day overview will provide attendees with the basic concepts and principles of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED). Participants will learn how CPTED can be applied to provide useful risk assessments and security surveys in all segments of our community.  These concepts are extremely useful for patrol officers and investigators in providing preventive recommendations to community groups or individuals as well as crime victims and complainants. \nCPTED examines the existing environment and its use and how those can be enhanced to improve the quality of life for residents\, ultimately reducing the fear and actual incidents of crime. \nInstructor: Officer Chris Fredenburg of the Saginaw Township Police Department. He is an Advanced Crime Prevention Specialist and is an accomplished practitioner of the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) discipline. \nLocation:      Grand Blanc Township Police Department\, 5405 S. SUMMARY:Basic Bloodstain Pattern Analysis
DESCRIPTION:Recognition & Documentation \nThis course provides an introduction to bloodstain pattern recognition and documentation.  The investigator will leave this course with an understanding of how bloodstain pattern analysis can be used in crime scene reconstruction.   An emphasis will be placed on recognizing patterns and documenting them properly through photography to ensure proper analysis through photographs at a later date.  Recognizing when a qualified bloodstain analyst should be consulted will be discussed.  This is NOT an all-inclusive pattern course and does not satisfy the requirement of a basic course\, which requires 40 hours of training.  Participants should bring their crime scene photography equipment to the class. \nTopics Include: \nIntro to Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (lecture) \nBloodstain Pattern Recognition (exercise) \nCase Study \nDocumenting Bloodstain Patterns (lecture) \nBloodstain Pattern Documentation (exercise) \nInstructor: Jodi Corsi is currently the manager of the Biology Body Fluid Identification (BFI) Unit at the Michigan State Police (MSP) Metropolitan Detroit Forensic Laboratory. She has been with MSP for over 15 years\, most of that time as a forensic scientist in the BFI Unit. In addition to managing the BFI unit\, Mrs. Corsi is a member of the MSP crime scene response team and is a trained bloodstain pattern analyst. She also teaches biology\, bloodstain pattern analysis\, and crime scene photography at evidence technician schools. \nDate/Time:         Friday\, April 21\, 2023\, 8:30am – 4:30pm \nLocation:             Grand Blanc Township Police Department\, 5405 S. SUMMARY:CopShock
DESCRIPTION:Rationale for Course:  This two-day course was developed to address officer response to Critical Incidents or “Toxic” experiences that have the potential to emotionally cripple officers and to address the “corrosive” or cumulative effects of the job that assault officers every day. \nDescription:  The law enforcement community explicitly rewards traits such as physical toughness\, independence\, emotional restriction\, and the ability to instrumentally react in the face of traumatic events.  However\, it is unquestionable that police and support personnel face specific psychological distress on the job as a result of exposure to emotionally Toxic and Corrosive situations.  As a result\, many officers suffer high rates of depression\, anxiety\, stress\, anger management problems\, and relationship difficulties.  At times\, the level of critical incident stress and occupational stress leads to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder\, Major Depression\, Substance Abuse\, Alcoholism and at worst\, Suicide.  However\, by studying and understanding potential emotional and physical reactions to critical incidents and providing insight into management of the everyday organizational stressors\, officers can develop the personal and social resilience to truly survive and grow in the Law Enforcement profession. \nObjectives:  Through lecture\, reading assignments\, video tapes and guest speaker personal accounts\, participants will explore the causes and effects of the “emotional injuries” common to the procession of Law Enforcement.  They will actively address the often overlooked and taboo subject of stress reactions and in doing so will gain valuable insight and will become more likely to seek emotional support. \nInstructor:        LaMaurice H. Gardner\, Psy.D.\, Police Psychologist \nDate:               April 13th – 14th\, 2023 \nTime:               8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. \nCost:                LEORTC Licensed Members:              Prepaid     LEORTC Non-Licensed Personnel:     $105.00 p/p \nNon-Member Agencies:                      $250.00 p/p \nLocation:         Grand Blanc Township Police Department\, 5405 S.
