DESCRIPTION:This 3.5-day course is designed to provide knowledge and training to develop Field Training Officers’ skills.  Each new FTO will be presented with ideas and techniques to assist them in becoming more professional and confident in the application of their skills.  This course is based on a modified “San Jose” program.  Upon completion the FTO will be able to: \n\nDiscuss the “San Jose” and other program models\nIdentify demands on FTOs as Instructors\nList five of the errors in rating\nUnderstand the basics of Adult Learning Theory\nIdentify liability issues\nUnderstand performance evaluations\nInstruct from Training Briefs\nUnderstand the Rating Scale and Reference Numbers\nComplete the Daily Observation Report\nDevelop a Scenario and additional Training Plans\nUnderstand the purpose of program management and control\n\nInstructor:  Steven Kellams of FTO Solutions.  Steven Kellams retired from the Bloomington Police Department after 27 years of service. His last rank was as the Administrative Captain. SUMMARY:Autism Awareness for First Responders
DESCRIPTION:Autism Training for First Responders \nCourse Description: This training session will focus on defining autism\, recognizing autism in the field\, and strategies for interacting and engaging with people with autism. The three most common\, high-risk calls involving people with autism will be presented and discussed as well as criminal justice contact trends and interview techniques. Information specific to fire\, EMS\, and emergency room personnel is included. The training session is presented through multimedia images\, audiovisual video\, lectures\, and handouts. Case examples will be discussed. \nInstructors: Drs. Melissa Sreckovic and Christine Kenney are associate professors at the University of Michigan-Flint in the Education Department. Dr. Sreckovic earned her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Special Education with a focus on autism spectrum disorders and her MA from Michigan State University in Special Education and Literacy. Dr. Kenney earned her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Language\, Literacy\, and Culture and her MA from Eastern Michigan University in Early Childhood Education with a focus on Special Education. Drs. Sreckovic and Kenney have worked with individuals with autism for more than 15 years\, including young children\, adolescents\, and adults. SUMMARY:Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC)
DESCRIPTION:The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course was developed from the military Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training. SUMMARY:Emergency Vehicle Operation
DESCRIPTION:Participants will start the day at Flint Township Police Department and after instruction proceed to Auto City Speedway. \nThis 1-day refresher will provide a review of the laws and policies related to emergency vehicle operation\, pursuits\, and the proper course of action based on related circumstances. This training should be taken by officers that have not had the course within the last three years. As a matter of safety\, and as a condition of participation\, officers will be asked to sign the Course Rules Memorandum. \nIn addition to the regular skills review\, students will participate in a pursuit check ride with an instructor. Students are required to attend all class hours and successfully complete the course to receive a certificate. SUMMARY:Emergency Breaching for Patrol Officers
DESCRIPTION:This course focuses on Mechanical Breaching for Patrol Officers in Exigent Circumstances / Emergency Exceptions. \nThis is a four hour course with the majority of the course being hands on.  Students will have the unique opportunity to make repetitive breaches on a breaching door designed to simulate different levels of resistance. \nStudents will have the opportunity to breach the door with various tools\, including ram and hooligan tool.  The door is also designed for students to deal with hinge strikes along with simulated armor guard and doors that open out.  The students will be instructed in the proper techniques in using the ram\, hooligan\, and other tool for various situations. \nThere will also be discussion in shotgun breaching and other techniques.  Shotgun breaching will be simulated with shotguns utilizing snap caps. \nThe majority of instruction is outdoors and it is suggested that students dress appropriately for the weather in departmental approved clothing.  Students will be required to have gloves and eye protection. \nTools will be provided but it is suggested that students bring any departmental tools that might be used in these situations.  It is also suggested that students bring a departmental shotgun. \nInstructors:  Rudi Nitschmann retired from the Michigan State Police after 29 years as a Trooper with 26 years on the Emergency Support Team.  Rudi is an expert in Tactical Field Operations Training\, Level 2 and Instructor\, Rapid Response Instructor\, Tubular Assault Instructor and Field Craft Instructor. \nRichard Casanova retired after 23 years with the Michigan State Police and 19 years on the MSP Emergency Support Team and over 800 tactical activation’s.  Rich is a Krav Maga\, Defensive Tactics\, Sniper/Counter Sniper\, QUAD\, and Tubular Assault Instructor. \nDate/Time:     Tuesday\, September 26\, 2023 (Two 4 hour class offerings) \n8 am – 12 pm (or) 1 pm – 5 pm \nLocation:         Flint Twp. SUMMARY:Emergency Breaching for Patrol Officers
DESCRIPTION:This course focuses on Mechanical Breaching for Patrol Officers in Exigent Circumstances / Emergency Exceptions. \nThis is a four hour course with the majority of the course being hands on.  Students will have the unique opportunity to make repetitive breaches on a breaching door designed to simulate different levels of resistance. \nStudents will have the opportunity to breach the door with various tools\, including ram and hooligan tool.  The door is also designed for students to deal with hinge strikes along with simulated armor guard and doors that open out.  The students will be instructed in the proper techniques in using the ram\, hooligan\, and other tool for various situations. \nThere will also be discussion in shotgun breaching and other techniques.  Shotgun breaching will be simulated with shotguns utilizing snap caps. \nThe majority of instruction is outdoors and it is suggested that students dress appropriately for the weather in departmental approved clothing.  Students will be required to have gloves and eye protection. \nTools will be provided but it is suggested that students bring any departmental tools that might be used in these situations.  It is also suggested that students bring a departmental shotgun. \nInstructors:  Rudi Nitschmann retired from the Michigan State Police after 29 years as a Trooper with 26 years on the Emergency Support Team.  Rudi is an expert in Tactical Field Operations Training\, Level 2 and Instructor\, Rapid Response Instructor\, Tubular Assault Instructor and Field Craft Instructor. \nRichard Casanova retired after 23 years with the Michigan State Police and 19 years on the MSP Emergency Support Team and over 800 tactical activation’s.  Rich is a Krav Maga\, Defensive Tactics\, Sniper/Counter Sniper\, QUAD\, and Tubular Assault Instructor. \nDate/Time:     Tuesday\, September 26\, 2023 (Two 4 hour class offerings) \n8 am – 12 pm (or) 1 pm – 5 pm \nLocation:         Flint Twp. SUMMARY:Autism Awareness for First Responders
DESCRIPTION:Autism Training for First Responders \nCourse Description: This training session will focus on defining autism\, recognizing autism in the field\, and strategies for interacting and engaging with people with autism. The three most common\, high-risk calls involving people with autism will be presented and discussed as well as criminal justice contact trends and interview techniques. Information specific to fire\, EMS\, and emergency room personnel is included. The training session is presented through multimedia images\, audiovisual video\, lectures\, and handouts. Case examples will be discussed. \nInstructors: Drs. Melissa Sreckovic and Christine Kenney are associate professors at the University of Michigan-Flint in the Education Department. Dr. Sreckovic earned her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Special Education with a focus on autism spectrum disorders and her MA from Michigan State University in Special Education and Literacy. Dr. Kenney earned her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Language\, Literacy\, and Culture and her MA from Eastern Michigan University in Early Childhood Education with a focus on Special Education. Drs. Sreckovic and Kenney have worked with individuals with autism for more than 15 years\, including young children\, adolescents\, and adults. DESCRIPTION:The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course was developed from the military Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training. DESCRIPTION:State statutes require law enforcement agencies to conduct thorough and comprehensive background investigations of those who will be licensed as fully empowered law enforcement officers in the state of Michigan. A comprehensive background investigation is perhaps the most important component of the hiring process because it helps agencies select only those who are the best fit for both the organization and the communities they serve. In 2019\, the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards adopted an Advisory Standard to assist investigators in their efforts to obtain the necessary and relevant information on an applicant’s background\, as part of the agency’s overall selection and hiring process. Thorough work done at the beginning of the hiring process\, with attention to detail\, can help agencies select the right applicant for the right reasons. The purpose of this course is to provide participants with useful information and resources that will assist them in conducting a thorough background investigation. Most what you see on TV is just enough to get people hurt. \nThis training addresses two sides of the edged weapons story. First it deals with defending against an attack.
