DESCRIPTION:FTO Update/Refresher \nHosted by \nLaw Enforcement Officers Regional Training Commission  \nThis one-day workshop is designed for the experienced FTOs who have completed a basic Training and Evaluation course. The advanced strategies used in this presentation are designed to maximize the effectiveness of those responsible for teaching and training the new employee. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to exchange and evaluate ideas\, problems and solutions. The program features a minimum of lecture and a maximum of student involvement. While emphasizing the critical role as a Coach\, Teacher\, Trainer and Mentor.  Activities will focus on skills required for a legally defensible\, valid\, reliable\, and objective documentation and evaluation using the San José Model of Training. \nInstructor:  DeWolf and Associates: Lt. Ed Dreslinski retired after almost 26 years with the Ann Arbor Police Department. Lt. Dreslinski began his FTO career in 1995 mentoring dozens of recruit officers on their successful career path and a number of recruits who failed to meet the performance standard. In 2003\, Lt. Dreslinski was promoted to sergeant and became the FTO Coordinator until 2012 when he was again promoted to his current rank and became the FTO Commander. Lt. Dreslinski has instructed in several capacities for over 16 years with his department. Lt. Dreslinski received his Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and Management from Northwood University and his Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Technology focusing on Emergency Management from Eastern Michigan University. Lt. SUMMARY:Introduction to Latent Fingerprinting
DESCRIPTION:This training is registered as\, “Agency Elected Continuing Professional Education (CPE).” \nThis 8-hour seminar is a combination of instructor presentation and instructor supervised practical exercises to provide students with the ability to successfully develop and preserve latent fingerprints using the basic brush and powder method. Topics covered in this course include: \nThe History of Fingerprints                               Terms & Definition \nSkin Structure & Latent Print                          Types of Latent Prints \nBasic Fingerprint Patterns                                 Fingerprint Details Used for Identification \nTypes of Powders and Brushes                        Brush & Powder Development Techniques \nPractical Exercises                                             Introduction to AFIS \nAdvanced Development Techniques (magnetic powders\, wet powder\, superglue fuming\, photography of latent prints) \nThis is a ‘hands on’ class.  Participants are asked to bring department cameras with tripods\, flashlight\, and your latent print kit if available (materials are furnished for the class but the instructor could recommend improvements to your kit(s)).  It is also recommended that the participants not wear nicer clothing as print powder will be in use. \nDate and Time:  Tuesday\, May 14\, 2026\, 8:30am – 4:30pm \nClass Size:       Limited to 15 \nLocation:  Flint Township Police Department\, 5200 Norko Drive\, Flint\, MI 48507 \nCost:                LEORTC Certified Members – Prepaid\, Non-Certified Members – $65.00 p/p\, All Others – $130.00 p/p \nInstructor:  Alexandra Seelmann-Saunders\, Forensic Scientist\, Latent Fingerprint Unit\, Michigan State Police Bridgeport Forensic Laboratory.
