DESCRIPTION:WHY MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID?\nMental Health First Aid (MHFA) for Public Safety teaches the skills needed to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care. This evidence-based training promotes open dialogue\, reduces stigma and encourages officers to seek support when needed. Offering MHFA for Public Safety can help\ncreate a healthier\, more resilient and productive department. \nWHAT IT COVERS\n• Signs and symptoms of common mental health and substance use challenges.\n• How to recognize common risk factors and warning signs.\n• Crisis diffusion and follow-up tactics.\n• Affirming and reassurance tactics.\n• How to encourage appropriate help.\n• Self-help and support strategies. \nThe course will teach you how to\napply the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE):\n• Assess for risk of suicide or harm.\n• Listen nonjudgmentally.\n• Give reassurance and information.\n• Encourage appropriate professional help.\n• Encourage self-help and other support strategies. \nWHO SHOULD TAKE IT\n• Law enforcement\n• Other first responders\n• 911 dispatchers \nINSTRUCTOR:  David R. SUMMARY:Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC)
DESCRIPTION:The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course was developed from the military Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training.
