SUMMARY:Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Practitioner
DESCRIPTION:This full Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) course is required for officers that participate in many of the grant funded traffic enforcement measures.  Additionally\, this course will provide all officers a standardized\, court recognized process that will enhance the reporting process and lead to higher conviction rates.  This training is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration approved course. \nClass Size:           Minimum of 8 \n                             Maximum of 16 \nCost:                    This course is grant funded for all licensed officers. \nInstructor:             Sgt. SUMMARY:Emergency Vehicle Operation - EVO
DESCRIPTION:Participants will start the day at Flint Township Police Department and after instruction proceed to Auto City Speedway. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis 1-day refresher will provide a review of the laws and policies related to emergency vehicle operation\, pursuits\, and the proper course of action based on related circumstances. This training should be taken by officers that have not had the course within the last three years. As a matter of safety\, and as a condition of participation\, officers will be asked to sign the Course Rules Memorandum. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn addition to the regular skills review\, students will participate in a pursuit check ride with an instructor. Students are required to attend all class hours and successfully complete the course to receive a certificate. SUMMARY:Child Sexual Exploitation Investigations
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this class is to provide police officers\, detectives\, prosecutors\, and CPS investigators with a better understanding of the dynamics involved in crimes involving sexual exploitation of children.  The seminar helps students to better understand the problems & effectively investigate these cases. Sexually motivated crimes\, especially those involving children are an issue that most people prefer not to think about but unfortunately are a reality in all of our communities. Through case studies & lecture\, students will gain a better understanding of child sexual exploitation & learn advanced investigative strategies. \nTopics to be discussed include: \n\nOffender typologies\nChild interviews false allegations\nVictimology\nIdentifying non-traditional evidence\nTactics for confronting the offender\n\nInstructor:      Detective James Twardesky\, Warren Police Department Special Victims Investigative Unit. The League of Michigan Bicyclists is offering Bike & Pedestrian Safety Education\, a newly updated version of its educational program for law enforcement professionals. \n\nLearn Michigan’s laws related to bicycle and pedestrian use of the roadways\n\n\nLearn how to accurately report bicycle and pedestrian-involved crashes using the UD-10 form\nExplore new approaches to traffic safety through data and reimagining traditional practices through the lens of equity\, empathy and ethics in transportation\nReceive MCOLES credit for their participation\n\nAfter this session\, you’ll be ready to educate and enforce bicycle and pedestrians’ law correctly when on duty\, and help your friends and family drive\, ride\, walk and wheel safely off duty. \nInstructor:  Jeffrey Carek is the Education Coordinator for the League of Michigan Bicyclists.  Jeff retired from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office in 2016.  Following his retirement\, he served as the Assistant Director for Public Service Training at Washtenaw Community College.  Most recently Jeff worked for MILO Cognitive as the Training Content Specialist.  He is an avid cyclist who embraces every aspect of the sport.  Along with riding he enjoys van life and anything outdoors with his wife\, Wendy\, and their three dogs. \nSergeant Scott Carlson has been with the Michigan State Police for over 24 years. He is currently assigned to the State Police Traffic Crash Reporting Unit as the statewide training coordinator for the UD-10 Traffic Crash Report. Sgt.
