SUMMARY:Internal Affairs
DESCRIPTION:This two-day course is a must for anyone who may be in a position of investigating complaints or actively supervising staff. Internal Investigations are used to determine whether an employee has violated a work rule or regulation and if training is needed to address issues. This instruction will make the investigative and disciplinary process easy to understand by using simple to follow guidelines. Emphasis is placed on; preventative measures before discipline\, the internal investigative function and training if\, necessary to improve the services of the agency. Each attendee should bring a copy of their agency’s current policy regarding citizen complaints and investigations. \nTopics include: \n\nPreventative measures before Discipline\nPurpose of Discipline\nDue Process\nProgressive Discipline\nConducting an Interview and Preparing a Summary and Investigative report and more…\nEmploying a systematic method to investigate and assemble a case file.\nUnderstanding the critical importance of establishing an effective and beneficial complaint acceptance process.\nUnderstanding the difference between rules of engagement for administrative and criminal investigations\, and why a “wall of separation” is essential during internal affairs investigations.\n\n  \nTarget Audience \nThe training is open to law enforcement or correctional personnel. \nTraining Facilitator:  Chief Daniel McCaw (Ret.) has over thirty-one years in law enforcement experience. He has a degree in Law Enforcement\, Political Science\, and a master’s degree from Oakland University.
