DESCRIPTION:Policies & Practices \nA Training Force USA Seminar \n  \nThe purpose of this course is to provide participants with an understanding of the various aspects and issues relating to officer misconduct\, internal affairs investigations\, and the agency discipline process. An effective officer discipline process requires a credible investigation conducted without bias and in accordance with professional practices\, agency policy\, and current laws.  This class delivers useful information for evaluating agency policies and procedures\, as well as for defining the role of the agency chief executive\, the internal affairs investigator\, and police unions in the discipline process. \nAfter participating in this training\, participants will be able to: \n\nEmploy a systematic method to assemble a case file and conduct an investigation\nUnderstand the critical importance of establishing an effective complaint acceptance process\nUnderstand the difference between rules of engagement for administrative and criminal investigations\, and why a “wall of separation” is necessary during internal affairs investigations\nUnderstand the investigation of a police shooting or in-custody death and the internal affairs investigator’s role\nUnderstand the different types of misconduct cases and their impact on the internal affairs process\nLearn about recent legal decisions affecting internal affairs investigations\n\nTarget Audience \nThis training is especially valuable for command and supervisory personnel and internal affairs investigators. DESCRIPTION:THIS AWARENESS PROGRAM SHOULD BE A MUST FOR ALL LEORTC MEMBER OFFICERS \nTHE 5 TENETS THAT SAVE LIVES \nThe Below 100 Program is designed to drastically reduce law enforcement Line of Duty Deaths (LODD’s).  The Below 100 Program specifically addresses the operational areas of law enforcement that contribute to the greatest number of LODD’s\, but are in large part preventable.  The Below 100 Program is an effort to instill a culture of safety in law enforcement agencies that will progressively reduce national LODD’s to Below 100 annually.  Instructional methods include lecture\, guided discussion\, and video case studies. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nExamine Line of Duty Deaths and Strategies for Reduction\nIdentify the 5 Basic Tenants of Below 100\nIdentify Agency Implementation Strategies of the Below 100 Program\n\n  \nInstructor:  Tom Gillman\, Criminal Justice Training Coordinator at Delta College.  Tom spent 28 years with the Bay County Sheriff Department.  He is a Certified Firearm’s Instructor\, R.A.D.
