DESCRIPTION:(2-hour training blocks) \nThis course provides various scenarios where officers respond to and react to situations that they may encounter while on duty. Officers interact with computer generated scenarios using verbal commands\, use of cover\, and the use of firearms as needed. Officers are critiqued at the completion of the scenario during the post critical incident reviews. \nGoals and Objectives \n*              Participants will be able to recognize threats\, select appropriate course(s) of action. \n*              Participants will be able to identify themselves when reasonable and give verbal challenges. \n*              Participants will learn the value of cover and concealment and the proper use of them. \n*              Participants will obtain invaluable experience in high stress scenarios which will aid them in their everyday encounters. \n*              Minimum of four scenarios per participant \n*              Various situations which will require participants to utilize: \n1) cover and concealment \n2) commands \n3) possible use of force \nDuty wear required. SUMMARY:Autism Training for 1st Responders
DESCRIPTION:Course Description: This training session will focus on defining autism\, recognizing autism in the field\, and strategies for interacting and engaging with people with autism. The three most common\, high-risk calls involving people with autism will be presented and discussed as well as criminal justice contact trends and interview techniques. Information specific to fire\, EMS\, and emergency room personnel is included. The training session is presented through multimedia images\, audiovisual video\, lectures\, and handouts. Case examples will be discussed. \nInstructors: Drs. Christine Kenney and Melissa Sreckovic are associate professors at the University of Michigan-Flint in the Education Department. Dr. Sreckovic earned her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Special Education with a focus on autism spectrum disorders and her MA from Michigan State University in Special Education and Literacy. Dr. Kenney earned her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Language\, Literacy\, and Culture and her MA from Eastern Michigan University in Early Childhood Education with a focus on Special Education. Drs. Sreckovic and Kenney have worked with individuals with autism for more than 15 years\, including young children\, adolescents\, and adults. DESCRIPTION:The Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) presents: \nResponse to Active Violence Training \nThis class covers the mandated standards developed for Public Act 552 of 2018.  The act added section 609e to the MCOLES act mandating active violence training for all licensed law enforcement officers in Michigan.  This course will include classroom and practical exercises. \nThis class is open to all sworn personnel. \nPlease remember to bring your MCOLES number for recognition of the completed training on your individual employment history.  A portion of the training will involve the use of force-on-force scenarios.  Long sleeve shirt and gloves are required.  Additional PPE equipment will be provided.  Firearms will not be allowed at the scenario training location and will need to be stored outside the training location. \nPublic Act 522 of 2018 \nOn March 28\, 2019\, Public Act 552 of 2018 (2018PA552\, MCL28.609e) became effective amending Public Act 203 of 1965 (MCOLES Act).  The act added section 609e to the MCOLES Act mandating active violence training for all licensed law enforcement officers in Michigan. \nSection 9e specifies the following: \n\n“(1) Beginning January 1\, 2020\, an individual seeking to become licensed under section 9\, 9b\, 9c\, or 9d shall complete active violence response training that emphasizes coordinated tactical response to rapidly developing incidents in which intentional physical injury or death to a specific population occurs through the use of conventional or unconventional weapons and tactics. \n(2) The commission shall promulgate rules establishing the minimum standards for the active violence response training required under subsection (1). \n(3) Beginning January 1\, 2020\, an individual who is licensed under section 9\, 9b\, 9c\, or 9d shall complete the active violence response training described under subsection (1).”\n\n  \nInstructors:  MCOLES staff. \nLocation:  Mott Community College – Southern Lakes Branch\, 2100 W. His last rank was as the Administrative Captain. DESCRIPTION:The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course was developed from the military Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training. SUMMARY:Courtroom Testimony for Police/Corrections Officers
DESCRIPTION:This 1 day\, dynamic\, interactive training will prepare police officers to not only survive\, but thrive in the courtroom\, even from a barrage of cross exam questions from the toughest of defense attorneys.  Participants in this class will learn all the tricks of the defense attorney trade\, how to overcome them\, and become the most effective\, persuasive\, and important player in the courtroom. \nReviews of this class have been overwhelmingly positive.  It is an exceptionally positive experience\, taught by an instructor with 30 years of courtroom experience.  It is fun\, practical\, and exceedingly helpful.  Learn all the things you were never taught in the police academy about winning convictions and making them stick!  You will participate in mock trials\, watch videos of other officer’s testimony\, and learn how to do it right!  If you’ve ever had a bad courtroom experience\, are new\, or simply need to gain some confidence\, take this course! \nThis is a full 1 day course\, consisting of 3 parts.  The first part consists of a mock trial\, where participants review police reports and actually testify in both direct and cross exam.  Attendees will alternate between playing the roles of witness\, juror\, and audience.  Everyone will participate throughout the morning\, and opportunities for frequent feedback will be given.  Cross exam will be challenging and demonstrate the most common defense techniques utilized to “trap” police officers and make them look bad.  Experience has shown that this part of the course\, utilizing audience participation and feedback\, is most appreciated and fun.  The second part consists of a lecture identifying all important aspects of effective police officer testimony\, identifying both the key factors to focus on\, as well as what to avoid. SUMMARY:Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE)
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the 16-hour Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) course is to increase officer ability to observe\, identify\, and articulate the signs of impairment related to drugs\, alcohol\, or a combination of both. This training also encompasses the 4 hour Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Refresher training. \nRequirements to attend: \n\nPolice Officers\, Motor Carrier Officers\, or Prosecutors only.  **Other individuals will not be allowed to attend**\nStudents must provide on day one valid documentation of 24 hour SFST Practitioner Training to attend. Acceptable documentation includes: SFST card\, certificate of training\, police academy graduate after January 1\, 2010.\nStudents must demonstrate proficiency in HGN\, walk and turn\, and one leg stand at the conclusion of the SFST refresher segment. Students unable to demonstrate SFST proficiency will be dismissed from the training. Students are strongly encouraged to review SFST procedure prior to training.\n\n**Demand for ARIDE training is high.
