SUMMARY:Autism Awareness for First Responders
DESCRIPTION:Autism Training for First Responders \nCourse Description: This training session will focus on defining autism\, recognizing autism in the field\, and strategies for interacting and engaging with people with autism. The three most common\, high-risk calls involving people with autism will be presented and discussed as well as criminal justice contact trends and interview techniques. Information specific to fire\, EMS\, and emergency room personnel is included. The training session is presented through multimedia images\, audiovisual video\, lectures\, and handouts. Case examples will be discussed. \nInstructors: Drs. Melissa Sreckovic and Christine Kenney are associate professors at the University of Michigan-Flint in the Education Department. Dr. Sreckovic earned her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Special Education with a focus on autism spectrum disorders and her MA from Michigan State University in Special Education and Literacy. Dr. Kenney earned her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Language\, Literacy\, and Culture and her MA from Eastern Michigan University in Early Childhood Education with a focus on Special Education. Drs. Sreckovic and Kenney have worked with individuals with autism for more than 15 years\, including young children\, adolescents\, and adults. SUMMARY:M.I.L.O. Simulator Training - School Active Shooter
DESCRIPTION:(2-hour training blocks) \nThis course provides various scenarios where officers respond to and react to situations that they may encounter while on duty. Officers interact with computer generated scenarios using verbal commands\, use of cover\, and the use of firearms as needed. Officers are critiqued at the completion of the scenario during the post critical incident reviews. \nGoals and Objectives \n*              Participants will be able to recognize threats\, select appropriate course(s) of action. \n*              Participants will be able to identify themselves when reasonable and give verbal challenges. \n*              Participants will learn the value of cover and concealment and the proper use of them. \n*              Participants will obtain invaluable experience in high stress scenarios which will aid them in their everyday encounters. \n*              Minimum of four scenarios per participant \n*              Various situations which will require participants to utilize: \n1) cover and concealment \n2) commands \n3) possible use of force \nDuty wear required. SUMMARY:Emergency Vehicle Operation
DESCRIPTION:Participants will start the day at Mott Community College – Northern Tier in Clio and after instruction proceed to Auto City Speedway. \nThis 1-day refresher will provide a review of the laws and policies related to emergency vehicle operation\, pursuits\, and the proper course of action based on related circumstances. This training should be taken by officers that have not had the course within the last three years. DESCRIPTION:This training program focuses on perimeter containment of Fleeing Subjects while utilizing Man-Tracking skills\, deploying K-9\, utilization of aviation support\, and possibly LPOP’s (Listening Points / Observation Points). SUMMARY:Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC)
DESCRIPTION:The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course was developed from the military Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training. SUMMARY:Background Investigations for Michigan Police Applicants
DESCRIPTION:State statutes require law enforcement agencies to conduct thorough and comprehensive background investigations of those who will be licensed as fully empowered law enforcement officers in the state of Michigan. A comprehensive background investigation is perhaps the most important component of the hiring process because it helps agencies select only those who are the best fit for both the organization and the communities they serve. In 2019\, the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards adopted an Advisory Standard to assist investigators in their efforts to obtain the necessary and relevant information on an applicant’s background\, as part of the agency’s overall selection and hiring process. Thorough work done at the beginning of the hiring process\, with attention to detail\, can help agencies select the right applicant for the right reasons. Attendees will be instructed in the most comprehensive and current auto theft investigative methods including forensic identification of suspected stolen vehicles\, past/present VIN formats\, label designs\, and locations of factory primary and secondary identification numbers. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by:\nNortheast Counterdrug Training Center\nMAGLOCLEN\nLaw Enforcement Officers Training Commission \nThis course explores the current trends\, identifiers\, and dynamics of street gang investigations. Understanding and identifying gang culture both on the street and in correctional facilities requires investigators from both local law enforcement and corrections to work together and share information. The intent of this course is to prepare officers in both large and small agencies to properly identify and interdict gang activity in their respective jurisdictions\, collect and manage their gang intelligence\, and communicate this information with neighboring jurisdictions and correctional facilities. Many states have their own gang enhancement statue\, but it is often not utilized to prosecute at the state level. The instructors of this course will demonstrate how to take the evidence and stored gang intelligence in a gang case and apply it in the courtroom. Not all street gangs establish themselves with a nationally recognized gang name. \nThe instructors will provide reasonable explanations why their local hybrid street gangs are just as violent\, and dangerous as nationally recognized gangs are in larger cities. This class will explain the command structure\, membership requirements\, and adopted signs and symbols\, hybrid gangs will create. Additional gang evidence will also be covered such as step-by-step examples of how to testify as a gang expert\, drug trafficking expert\, armed subject expert\, and cellphone records expert in court\, to assist student’s state’s attorney’s office in prosecuting your local gang members. SUMMARY:You Don't Have to Die:  Survive an Ambush
DESCRIPTION:This program presents a practical way of surviving an ambush.  The officer will be able to identify the signs of upcoming ambush\, which provides an opportunity to avoid it.  The practical application of concepts of baseline\, above and below baseline will be addressed.  Pre attack indicators will be explained as well as the importance of movement versus static response and the concept of effective communication will also be discussed. \nAbout Shaykhet Training \nShaykhet Training is a provider of specialized methods of self-defense.  The company offers training for the Shaykhet method\, which is practical and easy to master\, for general citizens\, children and law enforcement officials.  The method was created by Lee Shaykhet\, who has experience training the former Soviet Army and has provided instruction for law enforcement and military organizations in Michigan\, Indiana\, Illinois\, Kentucky\, Wisconsin\, Ohio\, Florida and Minnesota\, as well as Canada.  Mr. Shaykhet has also offered training for security and consulting companies and has trained bodyguards for several high-profile events. \nCourse Instructor:  Lee Shaykhet.  Lee has taught self defense classes to police and corrections officers for many years.  There is a principle difference between the traditional approach to self defense\, and the practical side of the matter.  He is a veteran instructor for LEORTC. \nLocation:  Flint Township Police Department\, 5200 Norko Drive\, Flint\, MI 48507 \nClass Size:  Limited to 25 \nCost:                LEORTC Licensed Members – Prepaid           LEORTC Non-Licensed Personnel – $35 p/p         Non-Member Agencies – $50 p/p \nClick HERE to Register \n“This training has been registered with MCOLES for the use of PA 302 Law Enforcement Distribution funds.”  \n
