SUMMARY:Courtroom Testimony for Police/Corrections Officers
DESCRIPTION:This 1 day\, dynamic\, interactive training will prepare police officers to not only survive\, but thrive in the courtroom\, even from a barrage of cross exam questions from the toughest of defense attorneys.  Participants in this class will learn all the tricks of the defense attorney trade\, how to overcome them\, and become the most effective\, persuasive\, and important player in the courtroom. \nReviews of this class have been overwhelmingly positive.  It is an exceptionally positive experience\, taught by an instructor with 30 years of courtroom experience.  It is fun\, practical\, and exceedingly helpful.  Learn all the things you were never taught in the police academy about winning convictions and making them stick!  You will participate in mock trials\, watch videos of other officer’s testimony\, and learn how to do it right!  If you’ve ever had a bad courtroom experience\, are new\, or simply need to gain some confidence\, take this course! \nThis is a full 1 day course\, consisting of 3 parts.  The first part consists of a mock trial\, where participants review police reports and actually testify in both direct and cross exam.  Attendees will alternate between playing the roles of witness\, juror\, and audience.  Everyone will participate throughout the morning\, and opportunities for frequent feedback will be given.  Cross exam will be challenging and demonstrate the most common defense techniques utilized to “trap” police officers and make them look bad.  Experience has shown that this part of the course\, utilizing audience participation and feedback\, is most appreciated and fun.  The second part consists of a lecture identifying all important aspects of effective police officer testimony\, identifying both the key factors to focus on\, as well as what to avoid. Topics include: \n*Better Report writing                                                                                    *Preparation \n*Courtroom demeanor\, body language and other intangibles              *Anticipating the cross exam \n*Avoiding common defense traps                                                               *Persuasion techniques \n*Common problems and areas for police officer testimony                   *Projecting confidence \n*Examples from real trials and real police reports \nPart three is a compilation of videos from actual trials.  Attendees can see the techniques discussed throughout the day exhibited in real\, live trial testimony from other police officers.  The videos demonstrate and reinforce the principles that have been discussed throughout the day in an authentic setting and bring it all home. \nInstructor: Stuart L. Fenton\, Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney\, Emmett County\, and Consultant. \nDate/Time:         Thursday\, December 5\, 2024\, 8:30am-4:30pm \nLocation:             Flint Township Police Department\, 5200 Norko Drive\, Flint\, MI 48507 \nCost:                      LEORTC Licensed Personnel – Prepaid    All others $150 per person \nClick HERE to Register \n“This training has been registered with MCOLES for the use of PA 302 Law Enforcement Distribution funds.” \nThis training is registered as\, “Agency Elected Continuing Professional Education (CPE).”

SUMMARY:First Responder Grants
DESCRIPTION:Win Grants for Your Agency \n2 Days of Grant Writing Training for Public Safety Agencies \n$3+ Billion FUNDING TRACK RECORD \nThe Law Enforcement Officers Regional Training Commission will host a 2-day specialized class for all Public Safety / First Responder Agencies on developing\, writing\, and applying for grant programs. The class will be presented by staff from First Responder Grants\, (www.firstrespondergrants.com Participants will learn the skills needed to properly research\, develop and apply to grant funding streams specific to Public Safety\, Emergency Management and Homeland Defense. \nThe training is specifically directed at employees of First Responder and Public Safety Agencies of Police/Fire/EMS and Emergency Management or local government agencies seeking grant funding from Federal/State/Local grant funding sources. \nDoes this sound like your agency? \n\nYour agency lacks funds for vital equipment or training.\nYou applied for grants in the past\, but just can’t seem to get your application into the winner’s circle.\nTimes are tight and your budget is shrinking\, but grants seem so intimidating\, you’ll never figure out how to get that crucial additional funding for your department.\nNeed help finding grants?\n\nYou’re not the only one. Fire Departments\, Law Enforcement Agencies\, and other Emergency Services Agencies nationwide have felt the sting of the budget ax. Competition for grant funding awards is fierce. This training provides a competitive edge! \nDon’t settle for another “Dear John” rejection notice. What did our clients do to avoid those rejection notices? \nThey got First Responder Grants training. \n“We have been awarded $410\,199\, and we have about $4\,000 invested in training and assistance through you. That’s over $100\,000 for every $1\,000 invested. Thank you.” \n— Undersheriff Mickey Gruber\, Brown County Sheriff\, Kansas \nIn this economy\, the competition for grant dollars will be extremely high.  First Responder Grants Training gives you the competitive edge needed to win grants for your agency! \n“Our department is very small and gets very little support from local government. Years ago\, my department sent me to a First Responder Grants seminar in Philadelphia. It was the best money our department has ever spent. I would estimate in the last 3 years we are in the $750\,000-$1\,000\,000-dollar club for grants. I would highly recommend going to this seminar.” \n— Lieutenant Nick Cook\, Bendersville Community Fire Co\, Pennsylvania \nDate and Time:  October 29-30\, 2024\, 8:30am-4:30pm \nClass Location: Mott Community College\, Southern Lakes Branch Center\, 2100 W. SUMMARY:Rental Communities Crime Prevention
DESCRIPTION:This course is open to both members of public safety and civilian apartment complex managers and single-family rental unit landlords.   This four hour seminar will offer participants a fresh approach to reducing 911 calls for service and increasing tenant’s quality of life through tried and true best practices and case studies. \nAttendees will learn that there are three important principles to deterring crime and creating rental community efficiency. \nPartnerships- Neither Police Officers\, Rental Community Management\, nor Residents can fight crime and quality of life issues alone.  A reciprocated union is required to fix reoccurring issues and the only way to find success is through a collaborative effort. \nPrevention- The understanding that prevention is always better than having to seek a cure.  This is accomplished through critical risk assessments put into action to achieve a preventative goal. \nParticipation- The realization that crime is a community problem which requires everyone working together to reduce or prevent it.  This is the true essence of the police and citizen partnership and only when put into actual practice can cooperative strategies be implemented to fix reoccurring problems.  Total success and profitability can be realized when all stakeholders become involved. \nInstructor:   Chris Fredenburg of the Saginaw Township Police Department.  He is an Advanced Crime Prevention Specialist and has extensive experience working with rental communities both with large tenant occupancy and small duplex and single-family rental units. \nCost (each class):               LEORTC Member:  Prepaid      Civilian Participants: $35.00 \nNon-Members:  $65.00 \nLocation (all classes):       Grand Blanc Twp.
