SUMMARY:Las Vegas After-Action Review
DESCRIPTION:TRAINING OPPORTUNITY \nOn October 1\, 2017\, tragically and unexpectedly\, Las Vegas\, Nevada\, became the stage for the worst mass shooting in modern history to date. That night\, more than 22\,000 people came together to enjoy a country music festival. On the third and final night of the festival\, a lone gunman opened fire into the crowd from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The gunfire continued for over 10 minutes\, resulting in the deaths of 58 innocent concertgoers and the documented injuries of over 850 survivors. With law enforcement closing in\, the shooter took his own life.\nIn the days and months since this horrific crime took place\, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has worked tirelessly to author the after-action review detailing our response to what has become known as “1 October.” This report is a critical\, administrative review that details our overall response: preparedness\, communication\, tactical response\, command and control\, medical response and resources\, crime scene preservation and evidence collection\, media response and coverage\, training and equipment\, and the care of first responders in the aftermath. In addition\, this report gives multiple recommendations from lessons learned.* \nThe Las Vegas Metro Police Department will provide in-depth details on their critical analysis of the tragic event and the response of law enforcement. \nPresented by:  Las Vegas Metro Police Department\, Office of Genesee County Sheriff \nLocation:  The Capital Theatre\, 140 E. Second Street\, Flint\, MI 48502 \nCost:  There is no cost for this training.  Lunch is included. \nTo Register:  You can register here or call (810) 232-2654 \nClick HERE to Register \n* excerpt from Sheriff Joseph Lombardo letter \n“This training has been registered with MCOLES for the use of PA 302 Law Enforcement Distribution funds.” \n

SUMMARY:Edged Weapons & Knife Attacks
DESCRIPTION:Simple “Common Sense” Techniques \nPeople have been using edged weapons since the beginning of time. They are still around in one form or another. Ever since the terrible events of 9/11\, where the hijackers used box cutters\, there has been an increased awareness of edged weapons.  As recently as 2017\, a high-profile terrorist attack occurred at Flint Bishop Airport.  The suspect used a 12” knife to severely injure a police officer. \nThis program addresses the psychological stress of an edged weapon confrontation and how to defend against it using the OODA Loop principle. Students will participate in scenario-based practical exercises.  Most people have no idea how to defend against an attack with a sharp object. Most what you see on TV is just enough to get people hurt. \nThis training addresses two sides of the edged weapons story. First it deals with defending against an attack. The second part explains how to use an edged weapon\, if necessary. \nInstructor:  Lee Shaykhet – is a provider of specialized methods of self-defense.  Lee has experience training the former Soviet Army and has provided instruction for law enforcement and military organizations in Michigan\, Indiana\, Illinois\, Kentucky\, Wisconsin\, Ohio\, Florida and Minnesota\, and in Canada.  He has trained security and consulting companies\, and bodyguards for several high-profile events. \nDate: April 5\, 2022 \nTime: 8am – 12pm or 1pm – 5pm \nLocation: Flint Township Police Department\, 5200 Norko Dr. Flint 48507 \nClass size: Limited to 25 \nCost:    LEORTC Licensed Members – Prepaid \nLEORTC Non-Licensed Personnel – $35 p/p \nNon-Member Agencies – $75 p/p \nTo register:   Visit www.leortc.com or e-mail registration@leortc.com  or call (810) 232-2654 \nClick HERE to Register

SUMMARY:CopShock
DESCRIPTION:This two-day class was developed to address officer responses to Critical Incidents or “Toxic” experiences that have the potential to emotionally cripple officers and to address the “corrosive” or cumulative effects of the job that assault officers every day. \nThe law enforcement community rewards traits such as physical toughness\, independence\, emotional restriction\, and the ability to react in the face of traumatic events.  However\, it is unquestionable that police officers and support personnel face specific psychological distress on the job as a result of exposure to toxic and corrosive situations.  As a result\, many officers suffer from high rates of depression\, anxiety\, stress\, anger management problems\, and relationship difficulties.  At times\, the level of critical incident stress and occupational stress leads to: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder\, Major Depression\, Substance Abuse\, Alcoholism\, and at worst\, Suicide.  However\, by studying and understanding potential emotional and physical reactions to critical incidents and everyday organizational stressors\, officers can develop the personal and social resilience to truly survive and grow in the law enforcement professional and their personal lives. \n*******Dr. Gardner’s classes have continually received exceptional evaluations.******* \nInstructor:  LaMaurice H. Gardner\, Psy.D\, Police Psychologist \nLocation:  Grand Blanc Township Police Department\, 5405 S.
