SUMMARY:Supervising & Managing the FTO Unit
DESCRIPTION:This (2.5) day (20 hour) course is designed to provide knowledge and skills necessary to properly lead and manage a Field Training Unit.  Each Field Training Manager will be presented with ideas and techniques to assist them in becoming more professional and confident in the application of their skills.  Upon completion the Field Training Manager will be able to: \n\nUnderstand the strengths and weaknesses of the different FTO models\nIdentify demands on Field Training Managers\nDefine the duties of the Field Training Manager and Coordinator\nCorrect recruit’s poor performance\nIdentify liability issues\nUnderstand performance evaluations\nUnderstand the Rating Scale and Reference Numbers\nComplete the Weekly Managers Report\nDevelop a scenario and additional training plans\nUnderstand the purpose of program management and control\nManage the FTO\nUnderstand proper implementation of termination procedures\n\nInstructor:       Steven Kellams of FTO Solutions.  Steven Kellams retired from the Bloomington Police Department after 27 years of service. His last rank was as the Administrative Captain. DESCRIPTION:THIS CLASS IS CANCELLED \nThe Michigan State Police (MSP)\, Criminal Justice Information Center\, LEIN Field Services Unit is now accepting registrations for Basic LEIN Operator Training.  Basic LEIN Operator Training is for agencies that have direct access to the LEIN and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). This course targets new LEIN users\, including:\n Dispatchers\n Law enforcement staff\n Corrections staff\n Probation staff\n Parole staff\n Prosecutor staff \nBasic LEIN Operator Training will provide a basic understanding of LEIN and NCIC queries and responses\, including the following:\n Access and dissemination policy\n Password use\n Wanted persons\n Missing persons\n Personal protection orders\n Stolen vehicles\n Driver and vehicle records\n Criminal history records\n Administrative messages \nLEIN and NCIC policy requires all operators to be certified within six months of hire and re-certified every two years.  The LEIN certification test is administered by the agency’s Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) and will not be given during this class. SUMMARY:Autism Awareness for First Responders
DESCRIPTION:Autism Training for First Responders \nCourse Description: This training session will focus on defining autism\, recognizing autism in the field\, and strategies for interacting and engaging with people with autism. The three most common\, high-risk calls involving people with autism will be presented and discussed as well as criminal justice contact trends and interview techniques. Information specific to fire\, EMS\, and emergency room personnel is included. The training session is presented through multimedia images\, audiovisual video\, lectures\, and handouts. Case examples will be discussed. \nInstructors: Drs. Melissa Sreckovic and Christine Kenney are associate professors at the University of Michigan-Flint in the Education Department. Dr. Sreckovic earned her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Special Education with a focus on autism spectrum disorders and her MA from Michigan State University in Special Education and Literacy. Dr. Kenney earned her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Language\, Literacy\, and Culture and her MA from Eastern Michigan University in Early Childhood Education with a focus on Special Education. Drs. Sreckovic and Kenney have worked with individuals with autism for more than 15 years\, including young children\, adolescents\, and adults.
