SUMMARY:Motor Vehicle Code Update
DESCRIPTION:This eight hour training for law enforcement officers will provide updated information pertaining to law enforcement utilizing the Michigan Vehicle Code.  This course will also serve as an update and refresher for the patrol officers where they will receive an overview of traffic engineering principles and discover some of the issues involved in setting speed limits and the posting of traffic control devices. \nInstructor:  Lt. SUMMARY:Adult Sexual Assault Investigations

SUMMARY:Advanced Topics in DNA:  New Methods/Cold Cases
DESCRIPTION:ADVANCED TOPICS IN DNA \nNEW METHODS TO SOLVE COLD CASES AND OTHER MAJOR CRIMES \n  \nMajor advancements have been made in forensic DNA testing in recent years. These advancements in technology include increased in technology include increased sensitivity\, new methods to interpret complex mixtures\, specialized search techniques of the CODIS database\, and many more.  This class will highlight these advancements and focus on utilizing them when routing DNA analysis has not solved a case.  This class will be particularly useful for looking at cold cases with a fresh eye to see if additional testing may be possible. \nTopics Covered Will Include: \n\nProbabilistic genotyping software\nFamilial searching of the CODIS database\nY-STR testing\nNew STR chemistries\nPhenotyping/ancestry testing\nCase Studies\n\n  \nFacilitators:       Jennifer Dillon has been a forensic scientist with the MSP since 2005.  She has case work experience in both the Biology/DNA discipline and in Trace Evidence.  She is a current Board Member of the Midwest Association of Forensic Scientists and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.  Jennifer is also a member of the International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysts. \nDanielle Hankinson has been a forensic scientist in the biology/DNA discipline for over 15 years. She has worked for the Virginia Dept. of Forensic Science and the Michigan State Police and is currently employed by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
