His last rank was as the Administrative Captain. SUMMARY:Basic Bloodstain Pattern Analysis
DESCRIPTION:This training is registered as\, “Agency Elected Continuing Professional Education (CPE).” \nRecognition & Documentation \nThis course provides an introduction to bloodstain pattern recognition and documentation.  The investigator will leave this course with an understanding of how bloodstain pattern analysis can be used in crime scene reconstruction.   An emphasis will be placed on recognizing patterns and documenting them properly through photography to ensure proper analysis through photographs at a later date.  Recognizing when a qualified bloodstain analyst should be consulted will be discussed.  This is NOT an all-inclusive pattern course and does not satisfy the requirement of a basic course\, which requires 40 hours of training.  Participants should bring their crime scene photography equipment to the class. \nTopics Include: \nIntro to Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (lecture) \nBloodstain Pattern Recognition (exercise) \nCase Study \nDocumenting Bloodstain Patterns (lecture) \nBloodstain Pattern Documentation (exercise) \nInstructor: Shane Hill is currently the supervisor of the Biology Body Fluid Identification (BFI) Unit at the Michigan State Police (MSP) Metropolitan Bridgeport Forensic Laboratory. DESCRIPTION:This training is registered as\, “Agency Elected Continuing Professional Education (CPE).” \nNEW METHODS TO SOLVE COLD CASES AND OTHER MAJOR CRIMES \nMajor advancements have been made in forensic DNA testing in recent years.  These advancements in technology include increased in technology include increased sensitivity\, new methods to interpret complex mixtures\, specialized search techniques of the CODIS database\, and many more.  This class will highlight these advancements and focus on utilizing them when routing DNA analysis has not solved a case.  This class will be particularly useful for looking at cold cases with a fresh eye to see if additional testing may be possible. \nTopics Covered Will Include: \n\nProbabilistic genotyping software\nFamilial searching of the CODIS database\nY-STR testing\nNew STR chemistries\nPhenotyping/ancestry testing\nCase Studies\n\nFacilitators: \nDanielle Hankinson has been a forensic scientist in the Biology/DNA discipline for over 20 years.  She is currently the Quality Manager at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.  She has previously workedat the Michigan State Police and the Virginia Department of Forensic Science.   Danielle holds BS and MS degrees from Michigan State University.  She has processed thousands of cases of bodily fluid identification and DNA analysis.  Danielle is certified in Molecular Biology by the American Board of Criminalistics (ABC) and is a past president of the ABC.  She is also an active member and a past president of the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists (MAFS)\, and has taught many classes to law enforcement\, SANE personnel\, college students and the general public. \nAmanda Fazi is a DNA analyst for DNA Labs International.  She has over ten years’ experience working as a forensic biologist and crime scene investigator\, with previous experience at the Michigan State Police Northville Crime Lab and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab.  She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences from Wayne State University and a Master of Science Degree in Forensic Science (Biology Concentration) from Michigan State University. \nDate/Times:       Friday\, May 1\, 2026\, 8:3oam-4:30pm \nLocation:           Grand Blanc Township Police Department\, 5420 S. DESCRIPTION:    Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE)\nThe course includes a SFST refresher that is recommended every 3 years. \nThe purpose of the 16-hour Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) course is to increase officer ability to observe\, identify\, and articulate the signs of impairment related to drugs\, alcohol\, or a combination of both. This training also encompasses the 4-hour Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Refresher training.  Open to law enforcement\, motor carrier officers\, and prosecutors only.  Non-law enforcement may only register with prior approval from DECP Program Coordinator or designee listed below.   \nRequirements to attend: \n\nPolice Officers\, Motor Carrier Officers\, or Prosecutors only.\nStudents must provide on day one valid documentation of 24-hour SFST Practitioner Training to attend. Acceptable documentation includes: SFST card\, certificate of training\, police academy graduate after January 1\, 2010.\nStudents must demonstrate proficiency in HGN\, walk and turn\, and one leg stand at the conclusion of the SFST refresher segment. Students unable to demonstrate SFST proficiency will be dismissed from the training. Students are strongly encouraged to review SFST procedure prior to training.\n\n**Demand for ARIDE training is high. Limited to 25 students. SUMMARY:Emergency Vehicle Operation
DESCRIPTION:This 1-day hand-on refresher course provides a review of the laws and policies related to emergency vehicle operation\, pursuits\, and the proper course of action based on related circumstances.  This training should be taken by officers that have not had the course within the last three years. \nStudents are required to attend all class hours and successfully complete the course to receive a certificate. \nParticipants will start the day/classroom portion at the Flint Township Police Department\, 5200 Norko Drive\, Flint\, MI 48507\, and after instruction\, proceed to the Auto City Speedway\, 10205 N Saginaw Rd\, Clio\, MI 48420. \nEquipment Required:     – Department marked police car in proper operating condition \n-Uniform of the day (recommended) \n-Duty belt and body armor (recommended) \n□             Loose items must be removed from the trunk and passenger compartments of the vehicles. \n□             No more than two officers per vehicle. \n□             No shorts\, sandals\, or pocket weapons. \nInstructor:          Lieutenant Brian Schroer\, Bay City Department of Public Safety.  Brian earned a Bachelor of Criminal Justice degree from Hilbert College and a Master of Public Administration degree from Central Michigan University.  During his career\, Lieutenant Schroer participated in the Field Training Officer program and serves as an instructor for Emergency Vehicle Operations training.  He was promoted to the rank of      Corporal Accident Investigator in 2009\, to the rank of Sergeant in 2020\, and to the rank of Lieutenant in 2022. \nClass Size:           Limited to 12 \nCost:                      LEORTC Member Licensed Officers – Prepaid \nNon-Member Agencies – $200.00 p/p \nClick to REGISTER below: \nhttps://form.123formbuilder.com/6888767/training-application-form \nThis training has been registered with MCOLES for the use of PA 302 Law Enforcement Distribution funds. \nThis training is registered as\, “Agency Elected Continuing Professional Education (CPE).”

SUMMARY:Overview of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED)
DESCRIPTION:This program is part of the Crime Prevention Specialist Series.  Each program in the series is a standalone seminar.  Participants that complete all seminars in the series will be granted a Crime Prevention Specialist Certificate. \nThis one-day overview will provide attendees with the basic concepts and principles of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED). Participants will learn how CPTED can be applied to provide useful risk assessments and security surveys in all segments of our community.  These concepts are extremely useful for patrol officers and investigators in providing preventive recommendations to community groups or individuals as well as crime victims and complainants. \nCPTED examines the existing environment and its use and how those can be enhanced to improve the quality of life for residents\, ultimately reducing the fear and actual incidents of crime. \nInstructor: Officer Chris Fredenburg of the Saginaw Township Police Department. It provides a comprehensive review of the skill set needed to be an effective criminal investigator. A successful criminal prosecution starts with a thorough investigation. Your experienced instructor will lead the participants through the steps of an investigation by reviewing case studies and actual crime investigations. Along with the practical approach\, investigative techniques that build the foundation of most investigations will be reviewed. The objective is to prepare the participant to be able to apply these skills in the field immediately. \nInstructor: Lou Tessmann\, CFI retired from the Waukegan (Illinois) Police Department after 23 years of service in a wide variety of assignments\, including patrol\, investigations\, training\, and ultimately Deputy Chief of Police.\nLou is a 26-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps\, retiring as a CWO-4. In addition to his service in Vietnam he was activated for Desert Storm and Desert Shield and has received numerous military awards including the Naval Commendation Medal. Lou began his career as a police officer with the City of Waukegan assigned to the patrol division. He was later assigned to the detective bureau for nine years and as a juvenile officer for one year.
