DESCRIPTION:This program is part of the Crime Prevention Specialist Series.  Each program in the series is a standalone seminar.  Participants that complete all seminars in the series will be granted a Crime Prevention Specialist Certificate. \nThis one day overview will provide attendees with the basic concepts and principles of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED). SUMMARY:Biology/DNA Evidence Collection & Analysis
DESCRIPTION:Having a basic understanding of evidence collection is an essential responsibility of all law enforcement personnel. This course is designed for any law enforcement officer or law enforcement civilian that will investigate crimes as either a first responder\, evidence technician\, or investigator. This course will consist of lecture\, laboratory demonstrations\, and hands-on collection and processing techniques. Participants in this course will: \n\nLearn known proper biological evidence collection techniques.\nUnderstand biological evidence analysis.\nUnderstand packaging and contamination issues.\nRecognize the most probative/valuable evidence for lab examination.\nUnderstand biological evidence collection performed by SANE nurses.\nLearn available resources for vehicle and scene processing.\n\nInstructors:       Jennifer Dillon is a Forensic Scientist assigned to the Michigan State Police- Trace Evidence Unit in Northville\, Michigan.  She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forensic Criminalistics and Toxicology.  She has also completed additional course work in Molecular Biology. Danielle Hankinson has been a forensic scientist in the biology/DNA discipline for over 15 years. She has worked for the Virginia Dept. of Forensic Science and the Michigan State Police and is currently employed by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. SUMMARY:Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC)
DESCRIPTION:The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course was developed from the military Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training. DESCRIPTION:This 2 day (12 hour) course is designed to refresh and remind the Field Training Officer (FTO) of the responsibilities and duties regarding field training.  Each FTO will be provided a refresher of the basic evaluation techniques for the field training program as well as the importance of adult learning theory in correcting poor performance.  Upon completion the FTO will be able to: \n\nUnderstand the basics of Adult Learning Theory\nDefine the Scale Value System\nUtilize Standard Evaluation Guidelines to complete the Daily Observation Report\nDefine Standardization and how it applies to Field Training Programs\nList the Common Performance Appraisal Errors\n\nInstructor:       Steven Kellams of FTO Solutions.  Steven Kellams retired from the Bloomington Police Department after 27 years of service. His last rank was as the Administrative Captain. Each new FTO will be presented with ideas and techniques to assist them in becoming more professional and confident in the application of their skills.  This course is based on a modified “San Jose” program.  Upon completion the FTO will be able to: \n\nDiscuss the “San Jose” and other program models\nIdentify demands on FTOs as Instructors\nList five of the errors in rating\nUnderstand the basics of Adult Learning Theory\nIdentify liability issues\nUnderstand performance evaluations\nInstruct from Training Briefs\nUnderstand the Rating Scale and Reference Numbers\nComplete the Daily Observation Report\nDevelop a Scenario and additional Training Plans\nUnderstand the purpose of program management and control\n\nInstructor:  Steven Kellams of FTO Solutions.  Steven Kellams retired from the Bloomington Police Department after 27 years of service. His last rank was as the Administrative Captain. SUMMARY:Adult Sexual Assault Investigations
