SUMMARY:Court Security & Prisoner Transport

SUMMARY:Adult Sexual Assault Investigations

DESCRIPTION:ADVANCED TOPICS IN DNA \nNEW METHODS TO SOLVE COLD CASES AND OTHER MAJOR CRIMES \n  \nMajor advancements have been made in forensic DNA testing in recent years. DESCRIPTION:This one day course is designed to provide a foundation for the understanding of how Peer to Peer networks operate and how file sharing of Child Sexually Abusive Material occurs. \nThis course will cover: \n\nHow file sharing on Peer to Peer networks operate\nThe definition of specific crimes related to Child Sexually Abusive Material (CSAM)\nThe identification and definition of specific language related to obtaining a Search Warrant\nIdentifying specific resources available to Law Enforcement personnel to assist in investigations\nThe depth of the problem of crimes related to CSAM\nChild Erotica (legal) vs. CSAM images (illegal)\nThe relationship between offenders who download and share images to those who are hands-on\, contact offenders\nBackground investigation prior to executing the Search Warrant\nSafe practices while executing the Search Warrant\nUse of electronics detection canines\nThe two stage/on-scene interview process\nUse of a “tactical” polygraph and follow up investigation of CSC on child victims\nProbable Cause Arrest versus Pending Further Investigation\nDealing with the potential of suspect suicide\nEmotional/Psychological health and wellbeing of investigators\nCase Studies as time allows\nHow to join ICAC Cops and the benefits related to training\, investigations\, and resources\n\nTarget Audience \nThis class is limited to certified law enforcement officers and Criminal Justice personnel\, including Police Officers\, Investigators and Detectives\, Chiefs and Command Officers\, Prosecutors\, Judges\, and Magistrates. \nWARNING: This class may include some coarse language and disturbing images and videos. While no illegal images will be displayed\, descriptive file titles and search terms commonly used by the offender will be discussed\, and is intended for the sole purpose of understanding how this crime occurs and its related investigative techniques. \nInstructor: Steven Standfest. Steve serves as a Special Agent in the Criminal Division for the Michigan Department of Attorney General\, and has been assigned to the MSP Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force since 2013. He has conducted over 100 investigations related to the online trading of Child Sexually Abusive Material on Peer to Peer networks and utilizes unique investigative techniques in approaching pedophiles that possess and distribute such material to obtain admissible confessions and ultimately convictions.
