SUMMARY:Michigan Autism Safety Training (MAST)
DESCRIPTION:An Autism Alliance of Michigan Safety Initiative   \nThis course is designed to teach officers how to identify characteristics of persons with autism and effective approaches to interacting with individuals with autism.  Participants will also receive information on available local and state resources to help the person with autism and their family / care provider. \nLaw enforcement and public safety personnel attending this training will: \n\nExpand their knowledge of autism and related behaviors.\nIncrease their recognition skills of persons with autism.\nAcquire information and tips on how to safely and effectively interact with individuals with autism and their family / care provider.\nLearn about community outreach strategies that will increase support and safety of those with autism.\n\n  \nInstructor:  Joel Maatman is the Autism Safety Specialist/Trainer for the Autism Alliance of Michigan. Mr. Maatman has over 40 years of law enforcement experience.  He is a retired Lieutenant from the Lansing Police Department and also retired from the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office as a Major.  Mr. Maatman has been an Autism Safety Trainer since 2017 and a big supporter of Autism Training for Law Enforcement since 2011. \nMAST is endorsed by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police and the Michigan Sheriffs’ Association \nThere are two (2) sessions on this date\, 10am – 1pm or 4pm – 7pm. \nCost:  Certified members – no cost\, Non-certified members $25 p/p\, All others $35 p/p \nClick HERE to Register

SUMMARY:Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC)
DESCRIPTION:The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course was developed from the military Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training. TECC is adapted to provide operators with battlefield proven trauma care information and techniques due to hostile action\, particularly penetrating trauma. \nStudents will be emailed study material prior to the course.  Students will be provided with an electronic version of the military TCCC Tactical Combat Casualty Care handbook to study.  The TCCC skill set for “Deploying Combatants” information will be presented in the TECC course.  The TCCC handbook covers both basic and advanced level material.  The TECC course will only address the basic level material related to “Deploying Combatants.”  Please study only that material.  Students are encouraged to bring any medical gear they carry on duty and they may also bring ballistic or tactical vests. \nTHIS IS A HANDS-ON TRAINING COURSE…… \nClass Size:  Limited to 14 \nCost:  LEORTC member licensed officers – Prepaid \nAll Others – $95.00 p/p \nInstructor:  Rick Holland\, Tactical Combat Casualty Care Instructor.  Rick has provided training to a multitude of agencies on a local\, state\, and national level.  \nThis class is registered with MCOLES for 302 funding. \nClick HERE to Register

SUMMARY:Biology/DNA Evidence Collection & Analysis
DESCRIPTION:Having a basic understanding of evidence collection is an essential responsibility of all law enforcement personnel. This course is designed for any law enforcement officer or law enforcement civilian that will investigate crimes as either a first responder\, evidence technician\, or investigator. This course will consist of lecture\, laboratory demonstrations\, and hands-on collection and processing techniques. Participants in this course will: \n\nLearn known proper biological evidence collection techniques.\nUnderstand biological evidence analysis.\nUnderstand packaging and contamination issues.\nRecognize the most probative/valuable evidence for lab examination.\nUnderstand biological evidence collection performed by SANE nurses.\nLearn available resources for vehicle and scene processing.\n\nInstructors:       Jennifer Dillon is a Forensic Scientist assigned to the Michigan State Police- Trace Evidence Unit in Northville\, Michigan.  She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forensic Criminalistics and Toxicology.  She has also completed additional course work in Molecular Biology.
