SUMMARY:L.E.A.D.S. – Law Enforcement Active Diffusion Strategies Plus Tactical Options
DESCRIPTION:** This course has been reviewed and approved by the United States Department of Justice** \nTHIS COURSE IS MCOLES REGISTERED FOR 302 FUNDING \nThis is a classroom based combat-confrontation avoidance course based upon the L.O.C.K.U.P. ® System. It teaches within a classroom setting how to recognize aggression and to not stimulate aggression. Students will learn communications skills and evidence based Active Diffusion Strategies that can avoid or resolve interactions by employing tactical de-escalation the techniques\, conflict resolution methods and distraction techniques that promote successful tactical applications.  The course also discusses tactical responses when diffusion tactics are inappropriate or ineffective. This program teaches officers how professional communication can protect officers in the field\, and reduce civilian complaints as well as civil litigation.  Instruction uses lectures and demonstrations to facilitate learning and retention. \nInstructional Objectives: \n\nUnderstanding the principles of risk management for officer safety\nIdentifying indications of hostility through body language\nUnderstand police “customer service” methods that yield positive relations\nIdentify professional benefits of active diffusion strategies\nLearn methods of effective verbal de-escalation strategies\nUnderstanding physiological changes during aggression\nLearn to use cognitive limitations for active diffusion\nLearn methods to re-direct the thought process through positive direction\nAnd much more\n\nFacilitator:  Lieutenant Kevin Dillon developed the L.E.A.D.S. – Law Enforcement Active Diffusion Strategies curriculum in 2007 with the program receiving national recognition. It has been presented to officers in the states of FL\, CT\, RI\, MA\, ND\, MN\, MO\, MI\, SD\, CO\, AK\, CA\, AZ\, WY and NM. SUMMARY:Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) Program
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the 16-hour Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) course is to increase officer ability to observe\, identify\, and articulate the signs of impairment related to drugs\, alcohol\, or a combination of both. This training also encompasses the 4 hour Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Refresher training. \nRequirements to attend: \n\nPolice Officers\, Motor Carrier Officers\, or Prosecutors only.  **Other individuals will not be allowed to attend**\nStudents must provide on day one valid documentation of 24 hour SFST Practitioner Training to attend. Acceptable documentation includes: SFST card\, certificate of training\, police academy graduate after January 1\, 2010.\nStudents must demonstrate proficiency in HGN\, walk and turn\, and one leg stand at the conclusion of the SFST refresher segment. Students unable to demonstrate SFST proficiency will be dismissed from the training. Students are strongly encouraged to review SFST procedure prior to training.\n\n**Demand for ARIDE training is high. DESCRIPTION:This course provides various scenarios where officers respond to and react to situations that they may encounter while on duty. SUMMARY:Firearms Simulator Decision Making
DESCRIPTION:This course provides various scenarios where officers respond to and react to situations that they may encounter while on duty. Officers interact with computer generated scenarios using verbal commands\, use of cover\, and the use of firearms as needed.  Officers are critiqued at the completion of the scenario during the post critical incident reviews. \nLaw Enforcement Regional Training Academy (LERTA) has one of the few fully integrated driving and force options simulator’s in the area.  With this system\, officers will do exactly the same things in the training room that they do on duty: receiving and responding to a call in their patrol car\, conducting an investigation or a field interview\, making a simulated arrest\, or even implementing a level of force necessary to gain compliance from a subject. \nParticipants will be credited for 2 hours of training with MCOLES.  Training blocks of time will be assigned to individuals as they enroll for the class.  Training blocks are:  8:00am – 10:00am     10:30am – 12:30pm.  We will be able to accommodate four (4) trainees per block. \nINSTRUCTOR:  Dunell Chaney is retired from the City of Flint Police Department and is currently a Sergeant with the Mott Community College Campus Safety for approximately 30 years of law enforcement experience.  He is a MILO/FAAC instructor\, firearms instructor\, defensive tactics instructor\, and active shooter instructor.  He has been an instructor for LERTA for the last five (5) years. \nCOST:  LEORTC Licensed Personnel – Prepaid     All Others – $35.00 p/p \nREQUIREMENTS:  Officers are to report in their duty wear.  Weapons will be secured prior to participating in the training.  This is a FAAC Simulator which incorporates both a driving and force options.  All weaponry/radio systems are furnished. \nClick HERE to Register \n\n+ GOOGLE CALENDAR+ ICAL EXPORT

DESCRIPTION:The Fair & Impartial Policing (FIP) curricula is based on the science of implicit bias.  Implicit biases can impact what people perceive and do\, even in people who consciously hold non-prejudiced attitudes.  The implication of the science of bias is that even the best law enforcement officers may manifest bias because they are human\, and even the best agencies will have biased policing because they hire humans. The FIP curricula are founded on the following fundamental principles: \nThe FIP Training Program for Patrol Officers is an 8-hour program that applies the modern science of bias to policing; it trains officers on the effect of unconscious bias and gives them the information and skills they need to reduce and manage their biases. The curricula address\, not just racial/ethnic bias\, but biases based on other factors\, such as gender\, sexual orientation\, religion\, socio-economic status\, age\, and more.  Officers will learn: \n\nAll people\, even well-intentioned people\, have biases\nHaving biases is normal to human functioning \nBiases are often implicit or unconscious\, and can impact our perceptions and decisions\nTo recognize their implicit biases\, and how to implement skills to manage biases\nHow promoting fair and impartial policing can strengthen police- community trust\n\nFIP National Instructors represent local\, county\, state\, and university police\, and bring practical\, “street-wise” applications for law enforcement personnel at all levels of the organization. \nInstructor:  Lt. SUMMARY:Basic Bloodstain Pattern Analysis
DESCRIPTION:This course will provide an introduction to bloodstain pattern recognition and documentation.  The investigator will leave this course with an understanding of how bloodstain pattern analysis can be used in crime scene reconstruction.   An emphasis will be placed on recognizing patterns and documenting them properly through photography to ensure proper analysis through photographs at a later date.  Recognizing when a qualified bloodstain analyst should be consulted will be discussed.  This is NOT an all-inclusive pattern course and does not satisfy the requirement of a basic course\, which requires 40 hours of training.  Participants should bring their crime scene photography equipment to the class. \nTopics Include: \nIntro to Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (lecture) \nBloodstain Pattern Recognition (exercise) \nCase Study \nNotes & Photography (lecture) \nDocumenting Bloodstain Patterns (lecture) \nBloodstain Pattern Documentation (exercise) \nInstructor:  Jennifer Dillon is a forensic scientist with the Michigan State Police.  She currently works in the Biology Unit\, has previous experience in the Trace Evidence Unit\, and actively participates in crime scene processing including bloodstain pattern analysis.  She is a member of the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists where she served as the Crime Scene Section Coordinator from 2008-2012\, American Academy of Forensic Sciences\, International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysts\, and the American Society of Trace Evidence Examiners. \nClass Size:               Limited to 25 \nCost:                        LEORTC Licensed Members – Prepaid     LEORTC Non-Licensed Personnel – $45 p/p                  \n                                All Others – $80 p/p \nClick HERE to Register \n“This training has been registered with MCOLES for the use of PA 302 Law Enforcement Distribution funds.”
