DESCRIPTION:The use of surveillance can be a much overlooked tool in criminal identification and investigation process. Objectives and types of surveillance will be discussed along with the use of appropriate techniques and pitfalls of surveillance. \n\nParticipants will develop an understanding of the objectives and types of police surveillance.\nParticipants will learn the four levels of and techniques of moving surveillance.\nParticipants will learn the importance of surveillance notes and what should be on them.\nParticipants will take what was learned in the classroom and utilize this knowledge in practical exercise.\n\nRequired equipment: unmarked police vehicle (2 participants per)\, GPS if available\, binoculars. \nInstructors:  \nLt. SUMMARY:L.E.A.D.S. – Law Enforcement Active Diffusion Strategies Plus Tactical Options
DESCRIPTION:** This course has been reviewed and approved by the United States Department of Justice** \nTHIS COURSE IS MCOLES REGISTERED FOR 302 FUNDING \nThis is a classroom based combat-confrontation avoidance course based upon the L.O.C.K.U.P. ® System. It teaches within a classroom setting how to recognize aggression and to not stimulate aggression. Students will learn communications skills and evidence based Active Diffusion Strategies that can avoid or resolve interactions by employing tactical de-escalation the techniques\, conflict resolution methods and distraction techniques that promote successful tactical applications.  The course also discusses tactical responses when diffusion tactics are inappropriate or ineffective. This program teaches officers how professional communication can protect officers in the field\, and reduce civilian complaints as well as civil litigation.  Instruction uses lectures and demonstrations to facilitate learning and retention. \nInstructional Objectives: \n\nUnderstanding the principles of risk management for officer safety\nIdentifying indications of hostility through body language\nUnderstand police “customer service” methods that yield positive relations\nIdentify professional benefits of active diffusion strategies\nLearn methods of effective verbal de-escalation strategies\nUnderstanding physiological changes during aggression\nLearn to use cognitive limitations for active diffusion\nLearn methods to re-direct the thought process through positive direction\nAnd much more\n\nFacilitator:  Lieutenant Kevin Dillon developed the L.E.A.D.S. – Law Enforcement Active Diffusion Strategies curriculum in 2007 with the program receiving national recognition.
