SUMMARY:Beyond The Missing Report: Advanced Strategies for Trafficking and Recovery
DESCRIPTION:This 1-day class split into two 4-hour sessions is for new and experienced Officers and Detectives investigating Human Trafficking and Missing Persons. (2027 CPE\, meets 8 hours of MCOLES designated topics) \nHidden In Plain Sight: Human Trafficking is a 4-hour course which will help prepare law enforcement professionals to identify\, investigate\, and respond to human trafficking cases through a practical\, real-world lens. Participants will learn to distinguish trafficking from smuggling\, recognize how victims often present during initial contact\, and identify key behavioral\, physical\, and situational indicators. Using case studies – including a traffic stop that led to a federal conviction. Officers will see how small observations can develop into major investigations. \nThe course emphasizes actionable investigative strategies such as intelligence gathering\, digital evidence analysis\, financial tracking\, and undercover operations\, which will reinforce a victim-centered\, trauma-informed approach. Attendees will also explore common recruitment tactics\, exploitation venues\, and the challenges of victim cooperation\, leaving with tools to build stronger cases and work effectively with prosecutors\, social services\, and advocacy partners. \nInstructor: Edward Price Edward Price has served 31 years with the Michigan State Police (MSP).  He is currently a Detective with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office Criminal Investigations Division in the Special Victim’s Unit. He retired from MSP in 2026 as a Detective Lieutenant with the Second District Special Investigation Section\, where he supervised MSP detectives in Southeast Michigan and the MSP Trafficking and Abduction Group. He also investigated homicides\, human trafficking\, kidnappings\, child sexual assaults\, police shootings\, public corruption and other major crimes. He has instructed at numerous law enforcement centers on the topic of human trafficking\, child sexual exploitation\, major sex trafficking criminal enterprises\, Amber Alerts\, child abductions and officer involved shootings. He has been certified as an expert witness in sex trafficking in state and federal courts.  He will present on investigative techniques used in human trafficking cases. He will identify policies\, procedures and best practices that law enforcement should use when conducting complex human trafficking investigations and conducting undercover operations. \nFrom Call to Closure: Managing Missing Persons & Alert Systems is a 4-hour course which will break down how missing persons cases evolve over time\, emphasizing critical early decision-making\, investigative direction\, and the role of accurate Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) entries. Through case studies and applied discussion\, participants will analyze real incidents to identify effective strategies\, missed opportunities\, and key turning points. Special attention is given to victimology and behavior patterns\, equipping officers to better assess risk\, prioritize resources\, and respond with greater precision. This course is designed to strengthen investigative thinking\, improve response timelines\, and enhance outcomes in high-stakes missing persons cases. \nInstructors: Sarah Krebs-Qureshi is a nationally recognized law enforcement trainer\, keynote speaker\, and retired Michigan State Police commander with 25 years of investigative\, leadership\, and executive experience. During her career\, she helped establish the Michigan State Police Missing Persons Unit\, led statewide initiatives involving missing persons and unidentified human remains\, and served in command positions focused on leadership\, organizational culture\, and professional development. An internationally recognized recipient of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) 40 Under 40 Award\, Sarah holds degrees in Anthropology and an MBA in Leadership\, along with executive certificates from Harvard and Brown University. She is known for delivering engaging\, thought-provoking training on leadership\, resilience\, workplace culture\, women in law enforcement\, implicit bias\, and organizational change\, blending real-world experience\, practical strategies\, and humor that resonates with audiences across the public safety profession. \nDr. Stephanie Zoltowski-Siordia is a law enforcement trainer\, consulting psychologist\, and founder of Spectrum Training Solutions. A prior military police officer\, she provides training nationwide on communication\, mental health\, and neurodiversity within first responder settings. With her Doctorate of Psychology degree and 20+ years of experience\, she specializes in practical\, real-world training that empowers professionals to build resilience\, improve communication\, and maximize success under pressure.
