Call for Backup: Suicide Awareness & Prevention

October 3, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

Did you know…

  • Over 43% of police officers have personally known an officer or former officer that has completed a suicide?
  • Over 78% of police officers are personally aware of a department or agency that has lost an officer to suicide?
  • That the greatest concerns of police officers are the stigma associated with mental health issues and their departments’ seeming lack of support?
  • Humanizing the Badge’s unique #CallForBackup Suicide Awareness and Prevention Campaign seeks to address those concerns, and to teach officers how to help one another, and themselves, deal with the unique stresses of their chosen profession.

This 4-hour workshop will provide first responder’s and/or their family members the information necessary to recognize the signs and symptoms of job-related stress, especially as it relates to suicide, and also provide them with strategies that will enable them to provide immediate support for individuals who may be considering suicide.

Instructor:  David R. Edwards is a police chaplain, author and educator. He is board certified in crisis response and pastoral counseling, and is an approved instructor for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation and a member of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association.

Cost:                There is no cost for this program
