    Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE)

The course includes a SFST refresher that is recommended every 3 years.

The purpose of the 16-hour Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) course is to increase officer ability to observe, identify, and articulate the signs of impairment related to drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both. This training also encompasses the 4-hour Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Refresher training.  Open to law enforcement, motor carrier officers, and prosecutors only.  Non-law enforcement may only register with prior approval from DECP Program Coordinator or designee listed below.  

Requirements to attend:

  1. Police Officers, Motor Carrier Officers, or Prosecutors only.
  2. Students must provide on day one valid documentation of 24-hour SFST Practitioner Training to attend. Acceptable documentation includes: SFST card, certificate of training, police academy graduate after January 1, 2010.
  3. Students must demonstrate proficiency in HGN, walk and turn, and one leg stand at the conclusion of the SFST refresher segment. Students unable to demonstrate SFST proficiency will be dismissed from the training. Students are strongly encouraged to review SFST procedure prior to training.

**Demand for ARIDE training is high. Limited to 25 students. No shows on the day of training may impact enrollment for you and your agency in future ARIDE training opportunities**

NOTE: MCOLES number is required for law enforcement registration

Date: Monday, May 4, 2026 – Tuesday May 5, 2026 8:00am – 5:00pm

Instructor:  Chief William Renye, IACP Certified Drug Recognition Expert Instructor from Grand Blanc Township Police Department.

Cost:  Free tuition and materials.

Attire: Business casual.

Registration:  Registration must be completed on Professional Development Learning Center (PDLC) MiLogin – Login by searching ARIDE no later than May 1.

Non-MSP personnel can review instructions on creating an account in PDLC in order to register for this course. There may be up to a 72-hour waiting period for new accounts to be approved. Once approved, log in to generate your account. You may have to wait 15 minutes before the payment system updates account information so registration payment can be entered.
